UW-Oshkosh Captures WIAC Women's All-Sports Award

Fueled by four second-place finishes, UW-Oshkosh claimed the WIAC Women’s All-Sports Award for the 2014-15 academic year.

UW-Oshkosh compiled 50.5 points and recorded second-place finishes in the sports of basketball, cross country, indoor track & field and soccer. The Titans also placed third in the conference in golf, outdoor track & field, softball and volleyball.

Following UW-Oshkosh in the standings were UW-Eau Claire (49 points), UW-Whitewater (48), UW-La Crosse (44), UW-Stout (35), UW-Stevens Point (34.5), UW-River Falls (25), UW-Platteville (24) and UW-Superior (16.5).

UW-Oshkosh won the WIAC Women’s All-Sports Award for the ninth time. The Titans also captured titles in 1990-91, 1991-92, 1995-96, 1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2003-04 and 2005-06. UW-Oshkosh finished fourth in the competition in 2013-14 and third in 2012-13.

UW-Whitewater won the league's combined men’s and women’s award with 89.5 points and the men’s award with 37.5. UW-Oshkosh finished second in the combined category with 82.5 points and fourth in the men’s with 28.

UW-La Crosse placed third in the combined standings with 79.5 points, while UW-Eau Claire finished fourth (78.5), UW-Stevens Point fifth (70), UW-Platteville sixth (54), UW-Stout seventh (53), UW-River Falls eighth (44) and UW-Superior ninth (25.5).

Completing the men’s standings were second-place UW-La Crosse (32 points), third-place UW-Stevens Point (28.5), fifth-place UW-Platteville (27), sixth-place UW-Eau Claire (26.5), seventh-place UW-River Falls and UW-Stout (16.5) and ninth-place UW-Superior (8).

The WIAC recognized its first Men’s All-Sports Award champion during the 1966-67 academic year. The first Women’s All-Sports Award champion was crowned during the 1987-88 academic year and the first Combined All-Sports Award champion in 1997-98.

Points for the awards are given according to the final conference standings in each sport on a 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, or 8-7-6, etc., depending on how many schools compete in each sport. Either (but not both) indoor or outdoor track & field are included in the calculations, and the awards are determined on the basis of the lowest number of sports offered by any WIAC institution in each category (men - 5, women - 7, combined - 13).
