Carpenter, Johnsrud Receive CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

UW-Oshkosh’s Jordan Carpenter and Derek Johnsrud have been named to the 2014-15 Capital One NCAA Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America® Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Carpenter, a junior from Ashwaubenon, was selected to the 16-member second team, while Johnsrud, a senior from Fall River, was chosen to the 18-member third team. The selections marked the first time that UW-Oshkosh has landed multiple individuals on the Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America® squad.

Carpenter boasts a 4.00 grade-point average as a major in economics. Last fall, he finished 45th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, fifth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and third at the WIAC Championship.

Carpenter finished eighth to earn All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship. He also was named the championship’s winner of the Elite 89 Award.

Johnsrud owns a 3.96 grade-point average as a major in special education. He earned a total of 10 letters at UW-Oshkosh – four in cross country and three each in indoor and outdoor track & field. He earned All-WIAC first team laurels in cross country in 2013 and All-WIAC second team accolades this past February while competing in the 5,000-meter run on the indoor track.

Johnsrud concluded his cross country eligibility in 2013. That season, he placed 13th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Midwest Regional and 106th at the national championship.

This past May, Johnsrud was named the winner of the UW-Oshkosh John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award.

Since the inception of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Program in 1952, 52 UW-Oshkosh student-athletes have combined to total 73 Academic All-America awards.
