NCAA Division III Week - 1985 Baseball

UW-Oshkosh won the 1985 baseball championship for the school’s first NCAA Division III title.

The Titans opened the season 17-0 before finishing with a 37-3 record.

At the NCAA Division III World Series, UW-Oshkosh lost the first day to William Paterson University (N.J.). The Titans then won elimination games against the University of Redlands (Calif.), Montclair State University (N.J.) and Ithaca College (N.Y.) to reach the final.

UW-Oshkosh posted an 11-6 victory over Marietta College (Ohio) in the championship game. Outfielder Terry Jorgensen was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after hitting .550 with two homers and nine runs batted in.

Four Titans received All-America honors for the year, including Jorgensen, shortstop Kevin Reichardt and pitchers Troy Cota and Bob Stocker.

UW-Oshkosh’s season statistics included a .355 team batting average and a 2.94 ERA.

Late in the year, Russ Tiedemann earned his 400th coaching victory.

This team featured five future MLB draft picks. Jorgensen became the highest selection in program history, going 29th overall to the Minnesota Twins in 1987.
