Noone Earns At-Large Berth To NCAA Championship

Graduate student and first-year collegiate runner Evlyn Noone will represent UW-Oshkosh at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 17). The 6,000-meter race begins at 11:15 a.m. from the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Noone earned one of 56 at-large berths into the national meet by finishing eighth among 255 runners at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional held Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. She completed the course in a time of 22:06 to rank as UW-Oshkosh's top runner for the sixth time this year.

Noone will compete on her home course at the Division III Championship as UW-Oshkosh is hosting the 38th edition of the national meet for the fourth time. The Titans also hosted the event in 1999, 2011 and 2015. 

Noone's top finishes in 2018 also include second place at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic held Sept. 21, sixth place at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 27, seventh place at the UW-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open held Sept. 8; and eighth-place at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Sept. 28.

Hannah Roeske of Wheaton College (Ill.) won Saturday's Midwest Regional with a time of 21:22 while Paige Lawler of Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) finished second in 21:24. Hannah Beilke of UW-La Crosse placed third in 21:28, Sadie Kroll of UW-La Crosse fourth in 21:46 and Sam Slattery of UW-Eau Claire fifth in 21:59.

Washington University in St. Louis owned the next two runners as Sophie Watterson finished sixth and Aly Wayne seventh with times of 22:01 and 22:03, respectively. Noone followed in eighth place while Jessica Petruzates of UW-Stout finished ninth in 22:07 and Sophia Elgamal of University of Chicago (Ill.) 10th in 22:09.

In addition to Noone, other Midwest Regional at-large qualifiers for the Division III Championship were Johanna Meister and Katie Wardinski from UW-Platteville, Jillian Cole from Illinois Wesleyan University, Jessica Petruzates from UW-Stout, Madelyn Scopp from North Central College (Ill.), and Linsey Tolkkinen from UW-River Falls.

The top 35 finishers at this Saturday's race will receive All-America accolades.

Seven-person squads from University of Chicago, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, Washington University in St. Louis and Wheaton College will represent the Midwest Region in the team competition at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Last Saturday, Washington University in St. Louis captured the Midwest Regional team title with 58 points. The Bears were followed by second-place and 2017 Midwest Regional champion UW-Eau Claire with 93 points.

Rounding out the top five teams were third-place UW-La Crosse with 101 points, fourth-place University of Chicago with 118 and fifth-place Wheaton College with 147. UW-Oshkosh compiled 306 points en route to its 10th-place finish.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) seeks its third straight NCAA Division III title and sixth in the past seven years after defeating runner-up UW-Eau Claire for the 2017 crown.
