Titans Place 12th At NCAA Midwest Regional

Cheyenne Moore finished fourth for the second consecutive year to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team to a 12th-place listing at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

Moore earned this year's finish by completing the 6,000-meter course with a time of 20:53. She previously finished fourth at the Midwest Regional in 2016 and 73rd in 2014. Both of those races were held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

University of Chicago's (Ill.) Khia Kurtenbach successfully defended her individual title by defeating her 262 opponents with a time of 20:42. Paige Lewis of Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) finished second in 20:47, Hannah Roeske of Wheaton College (Ill.) third in 20:52 and Sam Slattery of UW-Eau Claire fifth in 20:54.

Completing the group of top 10 runners were sixth-place Rebecca Voss of UW-La Crosse with a time of 20:57, seventh-place Alison Lindsey of Washington University in St. Louis in 21:06, eighth-place Callie Fischer of UW-Eau Claire in 21:09, ninth-place Mel Becker of UW-Eau Claire in 21:12 and 10th-place Abigail Fouts of UW-River Falls in 21:14.

UW-Eau Claire tallied 59 points to win its first Midwest Regional team title since 2012 and fifth overall. The Blugolds were followed by second-place and three-time defending champion Washington University in St. Louis with 75 points.

UW-La Crosse placed third in the 37-team meet with 109 points while Wheaton College finished fourth with 126, University of Chicago fifth with 131, UW-River Falls sixth with 208, UW-Platteville seventh with 252, St. Norbert College eighth with 271, Illinois Wesleyan University ninth with 297 and UW-Stevens Point 10th with 301.

Wheaton College entered Saturday's regional as the fifth-ranked team in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Washington University in St. Louis was seventh, UW-Eau Claire 11th, UW-La Crosse 14th and University of Chicago 20th. 

UW-Oshkosh compiled 320 points en route to its 12th-place finish. The Titans reached their scoring value with the performances of Moore, sophomore Ashton Keene, freshmen Hannah Lohrenz and Reece Matheson, and senior Jessica Stamn.

Keene finished 32nd with a time of 21:53 while Lohrenz placed 76th in 22:50, Stamn 93rd in 23:03 and Matheson 118th in 23:32. Keene ranked 48th and Stamn 104th at last year's regional.

Also representing the Titans at Saturday's Midwest Regional were Cammy Garvelink and Amanda Van Den Plas. Garvelink finished 123rd with a time of 23:33 and Vanden Plas 167th in 24:13.

The top two teams secure automatic berths into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held next Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Principia College North Farm Cross Country Facility in Elsah, Ill. Sixteen other at-large bids will be awarded from the nation's eight total regions on Sunday (Nov. 12).

The top seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will also earn an invitation to the national championship.
