Titans To Compete At NCAA Midwest Regional

Two-time WIAC champion Cheyenne Moore headlines UW-Oshkosh's entrants for the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 11).

The 6,000-meter race, which features nearly 300 runners from schools located in the states of Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin, is scheduled for noon at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

Moore has won each of her last four races this season, including her second straight WIAC title on Oct. 28 in Whitewater. Moore, who defeated 87 other runners to claim this year's WIAC race, also won individual titles at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Oct. 14 in Winneconne, the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Sept. 9 in Colfax and the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 23 in Falcon Heights, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh's lineup for Saturday's Midwest Regional is also expected to include Cammy Garvelink, Ashton Keene, Hannah Lohrenz, Reece Matheson, Jessica Stamn and Amanda Van Den Plas.

Keene contributed a 37th-place finish at this year's WIAC Championship while Stamn placed 44th, Lohrenz 45th and Matheson 52nd.  

Moore, Keene and Stamn are each making repeat appearances at the Midwest Regional. Moore finished fourth a year ago and 73rd in 2014. Keene and Stamn placed 48th and 104th last season, respectively.

The top two teams from the Midwest Regional will secure berths to the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held Nov. 18 at the North Farm Facility in Elsah, Ill.

Sixteen other at-large bids will be awarded from the nation's eight total regions. The top seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will also earn an invitation to the national championship.

UW-Oshkosh received an at-large bid to last year's Division III Championship after placing fourth at the Midwest Regional with 125 points. The Titans hosted last year's regional at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Five teams enter this year's Midwest Regional ranked among the top 20 in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Wheaton College (Ill.) lists fifth nationally while Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) ranks seventh, UW-Eau Claire 11th, UW-La Crosse 14th and University of Chicago (Ill.) 20th.

Each of the top four finishers from last year's Midwest Regional are back as University of Chicago's Khia Kurtenbach is seeking to defend the title she won in Winneconne.

Kurtenbach completed the Lake Breeze Golf Club course with a time of 21:42 while Washington University's Aly Wayne and Alison Lindsay placed second and third in 21:44 and 21:51, respectively. UW-Oshkosh's Moore rounded out the top four with a time of 21:56.

Washington University earned the Midwest Regional championship a year ago with 66 points. The Bears were followed in the standings by second-place UW-La Crosse with 81 points, third-place University of Chicago with 124, fourth-place UW-Oshkosh and fifth-place UW-Eau Claire with 169.

UW-Oshkosh has won 14 Midwest Regional titles, including seven in a row from 1994-2000. The Titans have finished among the top eight teams at each of the past 36 Midwest Regionals.
