Titans Are A Third-Place Finisher At Hoffman Invitational

UW-Oshkosh owned three of the top 22 runners and finished third at the Tom Hoffman Women's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 16) in Whitewater.

Defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse scored 26 points to run away with the team title while host UW-Whitewater finished second with 61.

UW-Oshkosh placed third in the 15-team meet with 109 points. The Titans were followed by fourth-place Edgewood College with 155 points and fifth-place UW-Stevens Point with 201.

Completing the group of top 10 teams were sixth-place UW-Platteville with 209 points, seventh-place Wisconsin Lutheran College with 217, eighth-place Beloit College with 220, ninth-place Milwaukee School of Engineering with 258 and 10th-place Knox College (Ill.) with 292. 

UW-Oshkosh reached its overall team score with the performances of Reece Matheson, Hannah Thorn, Paige Schilling, Tayah Cunningham and Jessica Stamn.

Matheson finished 16th in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 26:14 while Thorn place 19th in 26:18, Schilling 22nd in 26:45, Cunningham 27th in 27:02 and Stamn 40th in 27:33.

UW-Whitewater's Jessica Braun defeated 154 other runners to capture the individual title with a time of 25:08. UW-La Crosse took three of the next five listings as Madeline Sweeney finished second in 25:14, Valerie Jones third in 25:21 and Linnea Cochran fifth in 25:28.

Edgewood College's Alyse Peters placed fourth with a time of 25:23.

Other UW-Oshkosh runners among the top 60 finishes were 41st-place Allison Chen with a time of 27:34, 43rd-place Lexus Brown with a time of 27:40, 48th-place Erica Liesen with a time of 27:57, 54th-place Melissa Srnka with a time of 28:27 and 59th-place Lorraine Tenpenny with a time of 28:50.

UW-Oshkosh will participate at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 23) in Falcon Heights, Minn.
