Titans Finish Second At WIAC Championship

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse posted its second straight first-place finish at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Cross Country Championship at Ettrick Golf Course on Nov. 1.

The Eagles won the eighth championship in program archives with 32 points to exceed the 72 points accumulated by UW-Oshkosh.  UW-Eau Claire finished third with 73 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 101, UW-Stout fifth with 127, UW-Whitewater sixth with 158, UW-Platteville seventh with 161, UW-River Falls eighth with 270 and UW-Superior ninth with 274.

UW-La Crosse's Laura Mead claimed the individual title for the second straight year, completing the 6,000-meter course in 21:59.35.  She is the third two-time winner in program history, joining Tori Neubauer (1982 and 1983) and Julia Rudd (2002 and 2005).  A total of 98 runners completed this year's race.

UW-Oshkosh's Kylee Verhasselt finished second in 22:17.02, UW-La Crosse's Natalie Powell third in 22:20.76, UW-Stevens Point's Ana Breit fourth in 22:22.33, UW-Eau Claire's Lucy Ramquist fifth in 22:24.27, UW-La Crosse's Elizabeth Frick sixth in 22:25.12 and UW-Whitewater's Amy Kahl seventh in 22:27.61.

UW-Stevens Point's Lauren Dilley placed eighth in 22:27.74, UW-Oshkosh's Hannah Kuenzi ninth in 22:29.86, UW-La Crosse's Ellen Smith 10th in 22:39.61, UW-Eau Claire's Kelsey Jaeger 11th in 22:41.99, UW-La Crosse's Rebecca Zych 12th in 22:43.99, UW-Stout's Kathleen Thorn 13th in 22:46.85 and UW-Stout's Jordan Kelch 14th in 22:52.46.

UW-Oshkosh's Cheyenne Moor took 15th in 22:56.45, UW-Eau Claire's Sydney Pretasky 16th in 22:58.69, UW-Platteville's Kiera Depies 17th in 22:59.67, UW-La Crosse's Karina Nielsen 18th in 22:59.94, UW-Oshkosh's Sonny Jenkins 19th in 23:01.21 and UW-Eau Claire's Melody Becker 20th in 23:06.21.

The top seven runners received All-WIAC first team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earned All-WIAC second team accolades.  Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claimed honorable mention laurels.

UW-Platteville's Danielle Kunkel received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
