Titans Place Seventh At NCAA Midwest Regional

Performing at its highest level of the season, UW-Oshkosh finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Midwest Regional held Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

The University of Chicago (Ill.) owned five of the top 20 individual competitors and easily won the 38-team meet with 60 points. UW-La Crosse finished second with 101 points, while Washington University (Mo.) placed third with 114 and UW-Stevens Point fourth with 126. All four teams are expected to represent the Midwest Region at next Saturday's (Nov. 23) NCAA Division III Championship in Hanover, Ind.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were fifth-place Aurora University (Ill.) with 213 points, sixth-place North Central College (Ill.) with 228, seventh-place UW-Oshkosh with 238, eighth-place Illinois Wesleyan University with 246, ninth-place and defending regional champion UW-Eau Clare with 265 and 10th-place UW-River Falls with 271.

Sonny Jenkins, who completed the 6,000-meter course in a 28th-place time of 22:41, led UW-Oshkosh. She was a 116th-place finisher at last year's regional.

In addition to Jenkins, UW-Oshkosh received scoring values from Kylee Verhasselt, Danica Harrison, Kristen Linzmeier and Leah Rendflesh. Verhasselt finished 37th with a time of 22:51, while Harrison placed 47th in 23:05, Linzmeier 48th in 23:05 and Rendflesh 90th in 23:43.

Other UW-Oshkosh participants at the meet were Rhea Fiorita and Erica Munyan. Fiorita finished 93rd in 23:47 and Munyan 103rd in 23:52.

Lucy Cheadle of Washington University won the individual title with a time of 21:31. Emma Gilbertson of Wheaton College finished second among the meet's 282 runners with a time of 21:37 and Catherine Young of the University of Chicago third in 21:41.
