UW-Oshkosh Earns AVCA Academic Award

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team was recognized for its success in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 3.44 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) this past school year to earn one of the 173 NCAA Division III Team Academic Awards. The Titans also acquired the award following the 2005-06 season.

The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year. The award honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year.

UW-Oshkosh had 10 of its 15 team members surpass a 3.37 GPA this past academic year, including junior Katie Hodges and senior Brianna Witter who recorded figures of 3.96 and 3.93, respectively.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools receiving the 2017-18 AVCA Team Academic Award were UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls and UW-Stout.

Last season, UW-Oshkosh tallied a 20-15 record and finished fifth in the WIAC with a 3-4 mark.

The Titans begin their 2018 campaign against Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.) on Aug. 31 in Tacoma, Wash.
