Titans Sweep Green Knights, Vikings

Samantha Jaeke notched a triple-double in the first contest of the day as the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Wednesday (Sept. 13) in Kolf Sports Center.

Jaeke compiled 12 kills, 22 assists and 10 digs in the Titans' 3-1 victory over St. Norbert College. She then added nine kills and 13 assists during UW-Oshkosh's 3-0 decision over Lawrence University. Jaeke becomes the first Titan to record a triple-double since Andrea Felton accomplished the feat in 2010.

UW-Oshkosh (8-4) defeated St. Norbert College in set scores of 25-20, 25-11, 19-25, 25-22 before downing Lawrence University, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17. The Titans have won each of their 20 meetings with Lawrence University and 16 of the 18 matchups with St. Norbert College since 1995.

Tina Elstner had 20 kills and 16 digs on the day for UW-Oshkosh while Alyssa Wolslegel added 15 terminations, and Shelby Coron and Brianna Witter chipped in 12 kills apiece.

In the win over St. Norbert College, the Titans held advantages in kills (52-41), hitting percentage (.206 to .163), assists (47-35), service aces (7-5) and digs (66-48). UW-Oshkosh outhit the Green Knights, .438 to .000, in the second set.

Wolslegel recorded a season-high 12 kills, and UW-Oshkosh's Rachel Gardner established her season best with 26 digs. Morgan Windau contributed 16 assists while co-directing the Titan offense.

Elstner had 11 kills and 10 digs for her third double-double of the year and the 14th of her career.

The Titans never trailed while pounding down 15 kills in the first set. A solo block by Jaeke gave UW-Oshkosh a 15-8 lead, but the Green Knights cut their deficit to 19-17 on a Titan attack error. UW-Oshkosh regained control with the next three points on kills from Elstner and Witter, and a St. Norbert College ball-handling error. The Titans then closed out the set with kills by Coron and Jaeke.

UW-Oshkosh closed out Set 2 with 23 of the last 30 points. The first of back-to-back kills by Witter gave the Titans the lead for good at 6-5. UW-Oshkosh extended its cushion to 22-10 on Windau's lone kill of the match before concluding the frame on a kill from Jaeke.

St. Norbert College broke open a close third set with a 7-1 run for a 14-7 advantage, and the Green Knights led by at least five points for the remainder of the frame.

The Green Knights led by as many as four points during the fourth set and owned an 18-15 edge before the Titans won 10 of the final 14 points. The comeback began with a kill from Wolslegel and a service ace by Jaeke that pulled UW-Oshkosh within 18-17. Kills from Carly Lemke and Jaeke knotted the score at 19 and 20, respectively, and a ball-handling error on St. Norbert College gave the Titans the lead for good at 21-20. Elstner recorded a kill to up the advantage to 23-21, and UW-Oshkosh secured the match with a Jaeke kill three points later.

St. Norbert College (3-7) received a match-high 14 kills from Halie Ferry and 11 terminations from Brooke Siebert.

Jaisah Lee and Maddy Miller paced the Green Knights' back row with 10 digs apiece while Emily Rohloff and Anna Berghoefer had 18 and 12 assists, respectively.

In the sweep over Lawrence University, the Titans owned commanding advantages in kills (41-24), hitting percentage (.273 to .023), assists (32-21), service aces (8-6), digs (42-31) and blocks (7-3). UW-Oshkosh registered 17 kills on .452 hitting in the opening set and limited the Vikings to a -.029 attack percentage in the final frame.

Elstner and Jaeke shared the team lead with nine kills while Witter chipped in seven and Coron six.

Gardner, who has led the Titans in digs during all but one match this season, had a team-leading 11 against Lawrence University.

Lemke led all players with six blocks, and Katie Hodges added a season-high 10 digs for the Titans.

Rebecca Doughty chipped in 11 assists while sharing UW-Oshkosh setting duties with Jaeke.

UW-Oshkosh jumped out to leads of 9-2 and 22-10 in the first set as the balanced Titan attack yielded four kills from Jaeke and three each from Elstner, Witter and Wolslegel.

Set 2 was tied 16 times and featured seven lead changes. UW-Oshkosh reclaimed a 20-18 advantage following back-to-back double-blocks by Elstner and Lemke, and Jaeke and Lemke. Two straight Titan attack errors allowed the Vikings to knot the score at 20, but two Lawrence University attack errors gave UW-Oshkosh a 22-20 edge. Lawrence University responded with a pair of kills to tie the frame for the last time at 22. But a Vikings service error preceded another attack error that provided UW-Oshkosh set-point at 24-22. Following a Viking kill, Titan Renee Rush tipped her lone termination of the match to give UW-Oshkosh a two-set lead.

Lawrence University rattled off the first five points of the third set and did not trail until a combination block by Jaeke and Lemke gave UW-Oshkosh a 15-14 lead. The double-block was UW-Oshkosh's second straight point during a 12-3, match-ending scoring run. A kill by Witter increased the Titan advantage to 20-16, and Witter's solo block provided UW-Oshkosh match-point at 24-17. The contest then concluded on Lawrence University's 22nd attack error.

Arianna Neumeyer paced Lawrence University (3-8) with eight kills.

The Vikings also received a team-best nine assists from Ashley Camling and nine digs from Cyra Bammer.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action next Wednesday (Sept. 20), when it opens WIAC play against UW-La Crosse in Kolf Sports Center.
