Malcheski Selected To All-Midwest Region First Team
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named UW-Oshkosh's Katelyn Malcheski to its 2014 NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region First Team. The junior outside hitter is the 24th Titan to receive the honor and first since 2010.
Malcheski played in 142 of UW-Oshkosh's 146 sets this season and hit .272 with 476 kills, 85 blocks and 67 digs. She currently leads the WIAC in kills and ranks 19th in the NCAA Division III.
Malcheski helped the Titans compile a 31-8 record and earn one of 20 at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Championship. She had a team-leading 10 kills on .333 hitting in UW-Oshkosh's first-round loss to top-ranked and defending national champion Calvin College (Mich.) on Nov. 13 in Kenosha.
Malcheski reached double-digits in kills 27 times this season, including 20 in a 3-2 win over UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 1, 19 in a 3-1 victory over Webster University (Mo.) on Oct. 24 and 18 in a 3-2 triumph over the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Oct. 17. She tallied six blocks during the Titans' 3-1 victory over Marian University on Oct. 28.
For her career, Malcheski has registered 1,127 kills, 218 digs and 188 blocks in 105 matches and 384 sets played.
Joining Malcheski on the All-Midwest Region First Team were Ariel Feiertag, Kelsey Nobilio and Kristen Ruchti from UW-Whitewater; Karen Chin and Emily Heuermann from Carthage College; Taylor Dicus and Kylea Weber from Cornell College (Iowa); Melissa Nava and Sam Szarmach from Elmhurst College (Ill.); Emma Brunkhorst and Alexis Hartman from UW-Stevens Point; Maren Loe from the University of Chicago (Ill.); and Audrey Krajec from Millikin University (Ill.).
Concordia University Wisconsin setter Ashley Jehlicka was named the Midwest Region Freshman Player of the Year. Carthage College's Leanne Ulmer was chosen as the region's Coach of the Year.
