Malcheski, Trautmann Named To All-WIAC First Team

UW-Oshkosh outside hitter Katelyn Malcheski and libero Mandy Trautmann were among 12 players selected to the 2014 All-WIAC Women's Volleyball First Team.

Malcheski earned All-WIAC first-team accolades for the second straight season, while Trautmann was also named to the four-member All-Defensive team. Trautmann received honorable mention and All-Defensive team honors in 2013.

Playing in 139 of the Titans' 143 sets this season, Malcheski has hit .271 with a WIAC-leading 466 kills. She ranks 19th in the NCAA Division III in kills and third on the team in blocks (84). Malcheski, who surpassed 1,000 career kills earlier this season, has 26 matches with double-digit kill totals this year.

Trautmann has totaled a NCAA Division III-leading 815 digs during the 141 sets that she has played this season. She also ranks second on the team with 23 service aces and third with 57 assists. Trautmann has recorded 20 or more digs in a match 19 times this season.

The All-WIAC First Team featured seven players from conference co-champions UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater. The five UW-Whitewater players honored were Ariel Feiertag, Kim Frei, Kelsey Nobilio, Lauren Pfeifer and Kristen Ruchti. UW-Stevens Point's selections were Emma Brunkhorst and Alexis Hartman.

The remaining All-WIAC first-team honorees were UW-Platteville's Lidia Frias and Jennifer Schmidt, and UW-Stout's Morgan Denny.

UW-Oshkosh middle blocker Brooke Brinkman was among 15 players receiving All-WIAC honorable mention recognition.

Brinkman has played 128 sets this season and ranks second on the team with 317 kills and 88 blocks. She has reached double-figure kill totals in 15 matches.

Joining Trautmann on the WIAC All-Defensive Team were Lexi Pingel from UW-River Falls, Hannah Picel from UW-Stevens Point and Kelsey Nobilio from UW-Whitewater.

Hartman was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, while Nobilio was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

UW-Stevens Point's Abbey Sutherland repeated as WIAC Coach of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh plays top-ranked and defending national champion Calvin College (Mich.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship at 3 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 13) in Kenosha.
