Titans Sweep Muskies, Pioneers In Home Debut

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team raised its record to 8-0 with sweeps of Lakeland College and Carroll University on Wednesday (Sept. 10) in Kolf Sports Center. The Titans won their home opener over Lakeland College, 25-16, 25-13, 25-13, and capped the night by defeating Carroll University, 25-20, 25-18, 25-11.

Katelyn Malcheski led UW-Oshkosh with 19 kills and hit a combined .366 in the two wins. Brooke Brinkman added 17 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, while Morgan Cizauskas paced the Titans with 53 assists. Mandy Trautmann led the Titan defense with 32 digs.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed against Lakeland College. The Titans outhit the Muskies .346 to .051 and held a 9-0 advantage in blocks. UW-Oshkosh had 14 kills with a .393 hitting percentage in Set 1 and 16 kills on .519 hitting in Set 3.

The Titans raced to 9-3 advantages in the first two sets and led 11-5 to open Set 3. UW-Oshkosh held at least a four-point advantage in all sets after the quick starts.

Malcheski paced the Titan attack with 10 kills on 20 attempts against Lakeland College. Nerissa Vogt had eight kills on 15 attempts and a team-high six blocks. Lexi Thiel added six kills on eight errorless attempts. Cizauskas led UW-Oshkosh with 17 assists in two sets played. Kyle Hodyl had 12 assists off the Titan bench in Set 3. Trautmann scooped a team-high 10 digs.

Kathy Flanagan led Lakeland College (2-7) with six kills. The Muskies' Taylor Levitt had a match-high 19 assists while Caleigh Galvan had a match-best 11 digs.

Brinkman had a match-high 13 kills and hit .600 in UW-Oshkosh's win over Carroll University. The Titans had 9.5 blocks and held the Pioneers to a -.009 hitting percentage.

Malcheski added nine kills and hit .381 for UW-Oshkosh. Laura Trochinski had nine kills and 10 digs. Hayley Rickmeier contributed five kills on 14 errorless attempts and four blocks. Cizauskas had 36 of the Titans' 39 assists. Trautmann led four Titans in double figures with a match-high 22 digs. Danielle Stoppenbach had 10 digs and three of the team's four service aces while Rachel Smith recorded 10 digs.

Trailing 18-17 in Set 1, the Titans scored seven consecutive points and eight of the last 10 to pull out the victory.

UW-Oshkosh trailed 12-11 in Set 2 before five consecutive kills, including four by Malcheski, gave the Titans a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

The Titans cruised in Set 3 after using a six-point run to take a 7-2 lead.

UW-Oshkosh had 14 kills in Set 1, 15 kills in Set 2, and 13 kills in Set 3.

Casi Fredrick and Kelly Sloyan paced Carroll University (2-8) with six kills apiece. Jenny Shea led the Pioneers with 21 digs.

UW-Oshkosh hosts the 12-team Pizza Hut Classic on Friday (Sept. 12) and Saturday (Sept. 13) in Kolf Sports Center.
