Strong Finish Leads Blue Devils To Win Over Titans

UW-Stout ended the fifth and deciding set with a 10-1 scoring run to defeat the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team, 3-2, on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Menomonie.

The Blue Devils (13-7/1-3 WIAC) took the first two sets of the match by scores of 25-20 and 25-16. UW-Oshkosh (12-6/3-2 WIAC) fought back to take the next two sets by results of 25-22 and 25-19.

In the fifth set, UW-Stout stole the momentum from the Titans by rallying from an 8-5 deficit. Laura Reiter led the Blue Devil comeback with three of her match-high 16 kills in the set.

Jordyn Bratel led UW-Oshkosh with 12 kills. Jessica Fischer followed her with 10 and Katelyn Malcheski with nine. The Titans hit .172 for the match, including .393 in the fourth set and .241 in the third.

UW-Oshkosh also received 14 digs from Fischer, a season-high 33 digs from Mandy Trautmann, 20 assists and six digs from Alison Tomczyk, 13 assists and five digs from Morgan Cizauskas and 14 digs and six service aces from Danielle Stoppenbach.

UW-Stout, which snapped a 10-game losing streak to UW-Oshkosh, hit .201 for the match. The Blue Devils marked a hitting percentage of .444 in the second set and .280 in the fifth.

UW-Stout also benefited from the 23 digs and 15 kills from Molly Brion, 10 kills from Emily Crew and the 52 assists and 24 digs from Karley Wiensch.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Naperville, Ill., for next weekend's Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament. The Titans are scheduled to play Saint Mary's University (Minn.) and North Park University (Ill.) on Friday (Oct. 11) and Wheaton College (Ill.) and host North Central College on Saturday (Oct. 12).
