Defending Champion Pointers Sweep Titans

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team had its 10-game winning streak snapped with a three-set loss to two-time defending WIAC champion UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Oct. 2) in Stevens Point.

UW-Stevens Point (14-4, 3-1 WIAC) took the match in set scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-22.

In the first set, UW-Oshkosh (11-5, 2-1 WIAC) jumped ahead 6-4. UW-Stevens Point tied the set and then scored three straight points to take a 15-12 lead. The Titans got within 21-18, but Pointers closed the set by scoring four of the last five points.

The Titans stuck around early in the second set before the Pointers pulled away. The Pointers scored seven straight points to take a 15-7 lead and then counted five of the last seven points to win the set.

In the third set, UW-Stevens Point scored 12 of the first 16 points. The Pointers took their advantage to 19-11 before UW-Oshkosh rallied with an 11-5 scoring run. UW-Stevens Point ended the UW-Oshkosh threat with a kill by Emma Brunkhorst on the ensuing possession.

UW-Oshkosh hit .059 for the match and got seven kills from Jordyn Bratel and six from Katelyn Malcheski. The Titans also received 16 assists from Alison Tomczyk and 15 digs from Mandy Trautmann.

UW-Stevens Point compiled a .193 hitting percentage, with the 11 kills from Krista Loos and the nine from Allison Davis aiding the mark. The Pointers also obtained 34 assists from Alexis Hartman and 17 digs from Hannah Picel.

UW-Oshkosh continues its road swing with WIAC matches at UW-River Falls on Friday (Oct. 4) and UW-Stout on Saturday (Oct. 5).
