Titans Sweep Stars For 10th Straight Win

With a sweep of Dominican University on Wednesday in River Forest, Ill., the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team continued its longest winning streak since the 2009 season.

The Titans beat the Stars with set scores of 31-29, 25-19 and 25-22.

The first set was a back and forth struggle that saw 25 ties. After UW-Oshkosh tied the match up at 13-13, the two schools traded points every serve and the score stayed tied all the way up until 29, when the Titans notched the final two points to secure the set.

UW-Oshkosh carried its momentum into the second set and built a 12-7 lead. The Stars rallied back to take a 14-13 lead. Trailing 19-18, the Titans scored the final 7 points in the set behind the serve of Alison Tomczyk.

The Titans quickly got out to another lead in the third set, going up 5-0 right away. Dominican called time out and responded by taking a 10-7 advantage. The schools were locked in a close battle until UW-Oshkosh again scored the set's final two points to complete the sweep.

UW-Oshkosh had a balanced offense throughout the match. Five Titans had at least 6 kills, with Nerissa Vogt and Katelyn Malcheski leading the way with 8. Alexis Thiel had a team-high 18 assists but the Titans also got 10 assists from Tomczyk.

UW-Oshkosh had a balanced defensive effort as well, with four players scooping 13 or more digs. Mandy Trautmann and Jessica Fischer each had 14 digs to top the Titans.

Dominican's Claire Dezelski had a game-high 14 kills and Becky Honerlaw led the contest with 21 assists. Cheyanne Kelly topped all players with 26 digs for the Stars.

The Titans outhit Dominican .124 to .052 during the match.

UW-Oshkosh takes the court again on Oct. 2, when the Titans continue conference play with a match at UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers have won three consecutive contests against the Titans.
