Falcons Scratch Out Victory Over Titans
Mackenzie Suda tallied 45 assists, 10 digs and six kills to help UW-River Falls post a 3-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team on Saturday (Oct. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.
The Falcons (22-11, 5-3 WIAC) won the match in set scores of 25-21, 26-24, 20-25 and 25-21.
Despite the loss, UW-Oshkosh (19-17, 3-5 WIAC) earned the fifth seed for next week's WIAC Tournament. The Titans will visit fourth-seeded UW-River Falls on Tuesday (Oct. 30) for a first-round contest.
Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) led UW-Oshkosh by hitting .379 with 15 kills, six digs and five service aces. The Titans also received 10 kills from Katelyn Malcheski (Fr. • Little Suamico), 35 assists, 13 digs and four kills from Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) and 21 digs from Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.).
Brianna Muetzel paced the Falcons with 14 kills, while Erin Green added 13 and Kaylee Jacobs 10. UW-River Falls also acquired 13 digs and four kills from Danielle Gibbemeyer and 30 digs from Courtney Preiner.
The opening set was very close with neither team taking a lead greater than five points. UW-River Falls took the advantage at 14-13 and never trailed the rest of the way.
During the second set, UW-Oshkosh went on a 12-1 scoring run to take a 14-9 lead. The Falcons tied the score at 17 and finished the set with four of the last six points.
UW-Oshkosh built leads of 13-10 and 19-14 in the third set. The Titans sealed the win by scoring five of the last six points.
UW-Oshkosh carried that momentum into the fourth set as it bolted to a 6-1 lead. UW-River Falls won a couple of long rallies and then staged a 7-1 scoring run to go on top, 14-10. The Titans managed to tie the score at 17, but the Falcons marked seven of the next nine points to take a 24-19 lead.
