Blugolds Sweep Titans

UW-Eau Claire had little trouble in the first and third sets as it defeated UW-Oshkosh, 3-0, in a women's volleyball match held Saturday (Oct. 6) in Eau Claire.

The Blugolds (16-9/2-2 WIAC) hit .320 and served 10 aces en route to a 25-11, 25-23, 25-13 triumph.

In the first set, UW-Eau Claire jumped out to a 9-2 lead. The Blugolds increased their advantage to 20-9 before ending the set with four straight points.

UW-Oshkosh (13-11/1-3 WIAC) scored the first five points of the second set before the Blugolds rallied to take a 9-7 lead. UW-Eau Claire extended its advantage to 21-14 before the Titans stormed back with eight straight points to take a 22-21 lead. The Blugolds counted four of the next five points to win the set.

UW-Eau Claire took control of the third set after scoring seven straight points for a 15-6 lead. The Blugolds hit a match-high .467 in the set.

UW-Oshkosh hit .105 for the match. The nine kills of Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) and the six of Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) led the Titans. Morgan Cizauskas (Fr. • Mukwonago) contributed 13 assists and Mandy Trautmann (Fr. • Seymour) 13 digs.

Kelly Schuh marked a match-high 15 kills for UW-Eau Claire, while Emily Neave compiled 37 assists. UW-Eau Claire also received 18 digs from Lauren Sutherland and six blocks by Tessa Snell.

UW-Oshkosh returns to the court next weekend (Oct. 12-13) with four matches at the North Central College Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament in Naperville, Ill.
