Nationally Ranked Pointers Fight Off Titans

UW-Stevens Point came from behind in the second and third sets during a 3-0 women's volleyball win over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Sept. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Pointers (14-3/3-0 WIAC), ranked 24th in the NCAA Division III, started fast with an 11-3 lead in the opening set. UW-Oshkosh (11-7/0-2 WIAC) rallied to tie the game at 20 before UW-Stevens Point clinched the game, 25-22, with the final three points.

During the second set, the Titans methodically pulled out to a 16-12 lead. The Pointers then got even at 20-20 and tallied 4-of-5 points to win the set, 28-26.

UW-Oshkosh posted six unanswered points in the third set to go ahead, 16-12. UW-Stevens Point rallied again, scoring seven in a row, to earn the 25-23 decision.

Neither team marked an impressive hitting percentage, with the Pointers at .135 and the Titans at .075. UW-Stevens Point was led by nine kills apiece from Christina Brinkman and Kati Rau. The victors also used 21 assists by Alexis Hartman, 19 digs from Hannah Picel and six blocks by Morgan Bartkowiak.

The Titans were paced by the eight kills and four blocks of Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton). Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) contributed 19 digs, while Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) compiled 20 assists.

UW-Oshkosh has four matches scheduled at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 28-29).
