Titans Split Matches At UW-Whitewater Invitational

UW-Oshkosh recorded a pair of 3-0 victories as it went 2-2 at the UW-Whitewater Women's Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) in Whitewater.

On Friday, the Titans defeated Central College (Iowa), 3-0, and fell to Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), 3-1. The results were similar on Saturday, with UW-Oshkosh taking down Wheaton College (Ill.), 3-0, and dropping a 3-1 decision to Augsburg College (Minn.).

In the season's opening match, the Titans booked set wins of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17 over Central. Brianna Wagner (Fr. • Sheboygan) led UW-Oshkosh with 10 kills, while Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) racked up 30 assists and Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) 15 digs. Jordyn Bratel (Jr. • Milwaukee) also contributed nine kills and 12 digs.

Gustavus Adolphus earned its games by the smallest margins, recording scores of 31-29, 25-23 and 25-23. UW-Oshkosh prevailed in the second set by a 25-16 tally. Both teams totaled 47 kills and 38 assists. Wagner again paced the Titans with 13 kills, in addition to 14 digs from Eggert.

UW-Oshkosh out-hit Wheaton, .280-.093, while recording set wins of 25-16, 27-25 and 25-20. Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) did most of the damage at the net with nine kills. Liebetrau compiled 31 assists and Mandy Trautmann (Fr. • Seymour) 19 digs to seal the victory.

Augsburg hit better than .230 in each game of its 25-15, 26-28, 25-13, 25-23 triumph over the Titans. Three Auggies hit above .310 while posting double-digit kills, including Colleen Ourada (19 kills). Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) topped UW-Oshkosh with 12 kills, while Trautmann marked 21 digs and Krumplitsch four blocks.

For the tournament, the Titans received 33 kills apiece from Bratel, Gors and Wagner. Liebetrau set up 106 points, Trautmann dug 59 shots and Krumplitsch blocked 13 attempts.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action with a pair of matches in Madison on Tuesday (Sept. 4).
