Five Titans Acquire USTFCCCA All-Academic Award

Five members of the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team received All-Academic recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Named to the organization's NCAA Division III All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season were Titans Lindsay Denu, Ashton Keene, Cheyenne Moore, Alexandria Steger and Mikaela Zolecki.  

The USTFCCCA recognized 631 Division III student-athletes for their academic and athletic accomplishments, including Moore who was honored for the third straight year.

Denu, who owns a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a senior nursing major, is a graduate of Waunakee High School. She was a member of UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay team that recorded a 16th-place time of 4:03.61 at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in Geneva, Ohio. Denu also was a member of the Titans' indoor 1,600-meter relay team that ranked 22nd nationally this past season with a time of 3:53.51.

Keene, a junior, holds a 3.89 cumulative GPA as an education major. The Pewaukee High School graduate ranked 48th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run (37:37.48) this past year.

Moore, a nursing major, graduated in December with a 3.75 cumulative GPA. The Winnebago (Ill.) High School graduate placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (16:50.79) at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in Boston, Mass., to earn All-America honors. She also ranked 10th nationally in the mile run (4:55.73) and 22nd in the 3,000-meter run (9:54.12) this past indoor season. In 2018, Moore was named the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division III Midwest Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and the female winner of the UW-Oshkosh John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award.

Steger possesses a 3.33 cumulative GPA as a junior nursing major. The Slinger High School alumna ranked 29th nationally in the javelin (133-2) this past outdoor season.

Zolecki, a junior, has a 3.42 cumulative GPA as a junior special education major. The Muskego High School graduate ranked 35th nationally in the hammer throw (166-1) this past outdoor season.

The USTFCCCA selected Emily Forner of Allegheny College (Pa.) as its Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Annie Rodenfels of Centre College (Ky.) as its Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year; and Eka Jose of Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) as its Indoor and Outdoor Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA's Track & Field All-Academic Team, student-athletes must own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 of an individual event or in the national top 35 of a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order list.

UW-La Crosse earned a nation-best 23 All-Academic awards while Washington University in St. Louis followed with 22, UW-Eau Claire with 18 and Johns Hopkins University (Md.) with 17.

UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse and its five other WIAC colleagues combined for 73 All-Academic selections.

The USTFCCCA also chose Williams College (Mass.) (3.57 GPA) as its Indoor Scholar Team of the Year and Loras College (Iowa) (3.37) as its Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year.

The highest cumulative GPA of any NCAA Division III women's track & field program during the 2018-19 academic year belonged to Saint Vincent College (Pa.) with its 3.79 GPA.

In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
