Titans Conclude Busy Weekend Of Activity

Meets in three different cities, including the prestigious Drake Relays, kept the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field program busy as it tuned up for next weekend's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) in Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh was represented at the Drake Relays held Thursday through Saturday (April 25-27) in Des Moines, Iowa, and both the Simpson College Kip Janvrin Open and UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet held Friday (April 26) in Indianola, Iowa, and Whitewater, respectively. All three meets were non-scoring events.

Competition for UW-Oshkosh at the upcoming WIAC Championship will be held Friday and Saturday (May 3-4) at UW-Platteville. The Titans finished sixth at the league meet a year ago with 54 points.

At the Drake Relays, Lauren Wrensch and Alexandria Steger were UW-Oshkosh's only individual participants.

Wrensch finished 16th among 26 entries in the long jump with a leap of 18-10 while Steger placed 24th in a field of 28 competitors in the javelin with a measurement of 116-0. Wrensch currently ranks second in the NCAA Division III with her season-best distance of 19-4 in the long jump and Steger 19th with a season-best mark of 133-2 in the javelin.

Carsyn Spurgeon of the University of Tulsa (Okla.) won the long jump with a measurement of 21-1 1/4 while Sophia River of the University of Missouri finished first in the javelin with a throw of 179-10.

UW-Oshkosh recorded this season's 13th-fastest Division III time in the 1,600-meter relay with its 14th-place performance of 3:54.27. Members of the Titans' relay squad were Wrensch, Alexandra Demco, Lindsay Denu and Taylor Pralle. Lincoln University (Mo.) won the race of 28 squads with its time of 3:41.70.

At the Simpson College Kip Janvrin Open, Hannah Lohrenz was UW-Oshkosh's lone participant. She finished fifth in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:17.32.

UW-Oshkosh had one event winner at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet as Isabella Samuels defeated 34 other participants in the shot put with her first-place measurement of 45-7 1/4. Allie Flando of Marquette University finished second to Samuels with her mark of 44-1 1/2. Samuels currently ranks third in Division III with her season-best distance of 47-4 1/4.

The Titans owned four of the meet's eight place winners in the hammer throw as Mikaela Zolecki finished second with a mark of 160-1, Kahley Logan fourth at 147-4, Allie Marineau sixth at 140-2 and Elise Deaver eighth at 132-7. Marineau also placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 37-11 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh's other second-place finishers were Morgan Endries in the 100-meter dash and Melissa Srnka in the 800-meter run with times of 12.80 seconds and 2:22.80, respectively. Endries also placed third in the 200-meter dash with her time of 27.27 seconds.

The Titans also had Michaela Barrette finish fourth in the discus with a measurement of 122-2, Katie Retzlaff fifth in the long jump with a distance of 15-11 1/2 and both Erica Lorenz and Breanna Van Den Plas sixth with times of 17.33 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 2:29.35 in the 800-meter run, respectively. Lorenz also placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 4-7 3/4.

Seventh-place finishes went to UW-Oshkosh's Hailey Dorn and Grace Tempesta. Dorn posted a time of 12:26.21 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Tempesta a time of 1:15.34 in the 400-meter hurdles.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining eighth-place finish went to Alexis Reichardt. She recorded a time of 13:02.62 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
