Titans Have A Pair Of Event Winners At WIAC Outdoor Championship

Cheyenne Moore won the 5,000-meter run and Cara Volz the triple jump as the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team finished sixth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) held Friday and Saturday (May 4-5) in River Falls.

Moore outran 15 other competitors in the 5,000-meter run with her time of 18:11.97. She is the first Titan to win the 5,000-meter run since Christy Cazzola won back-to-back titles in 2013-14. UW-Stout's Jessica Petruzates finished second to Moore in this year's race with a time of 18:18.23.

Volz recorded the fourth-best measurement in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season with her winning skip of 39-4 1/2 in the triple jump. She defeated 22 other entries, including UW-La Crosse's Marissa Wustrack who placed second with a distance of 38-8 3/4. Volz is UW-Oshkosh's first triple jump champion since Jill Kincaid in 1999.

Volz also finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds.

UW-La Crosse scored 228.75 points to win the team title for the seventh straight year and 33rd time overall. UW-Eau Claire finished second to the Eagles with 149.25 points, UW-Stevens Point third with 111.75 and UW-Stout fourth with 111.

UW-Whitewater ranked fifth in the team standings with 96.5 points, UW-Oshkosh sixth with 54, UW-Platteville seventh with 43.75 and UW-River Falls eighth with 23.

UW-Oshkosh had a trio of third-place finishes at this year's championship in Taylor Pralle, Isabella Samuels and Alexandria Steger. Pralle sprinted to a time of 25.57 seconds in the 200-meter dash while Samuels and Steger recorded distances of 45-6 1/4 and 119-8 in the shot put and javelin, respectively. Pralle also finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.80 seconds.

Taking eighth place for UW-Oshkosh were Kahley Logan in the shot put with a throw of 40-7 3/4 and Karina Marchan in the long jump with a leap of 17-2 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh placed in a pair of relays, including the 400-meter race where Marchan, Pralle, Sie'anna Mitchell and Lauren Wrensch ran to a time of 48.78 seconds.

The Titans placed seventh in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:12.02. Members of that relay squad were Lindsay Denu, Morgan Endries, Rachel Powers and Melissa Srnka.

Celeste Madda of UW-Whitewater was named the meet's Top Track Performer while Erica Oawster of UW-Eau Claire was chosen as the meet's Top Field Performer. UW-La Crosse's Nickolas Davis was selected as the WIAC's Outdoor Coach of the Year.
