Moore Named Midwest Region's Top Track Athlete
UW-Oshkosh junior Cheyenne Moore was named the 2018 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Moore becomes UW-Oshkosh's third Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year award winner, following former Titans Liz Woodwoth (2002 & 2004) and Christy Cazzola (2012 & 2013) who won a pair of awards.
Moore enters this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship in Birmingham, Ala., seeded fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a qualifying time of 9:43.12 and 10th at 5,000-meters with a top performance of 17:04.13. Both times are the best in their respective events in the Midwest Region this season. Moore, who finished 14th in the 5,000-meter run at last year's national meet, is in this year's 3,000-meter national field for the first time.
Moore also teamed with Emily Reichenberger to combine for four of UW-Oshkosh's six selections to the USTFCCCA's 2018 NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region Women's Indoor Track & Field Team.
Moore collected all-region status in both the 3- and 5,000-meter runs while Reichenberger received all-region honors in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes.
Reichenberger, a senior, is seeded ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.01 seconds and 12th in the 60-meter dash at 7.72 for this weekend's national championship. Reichenberger claimed All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the 2017 national meet and an eighth-place effort at 200 meters in 2016. She also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash at the 2015 national championship and 12th in the event a year ago.
A total of 781 all-region citations were distributed among the nation's eight NCAA Division III regions. The top five individuals and the top three relay squads in each event from each region earned all-region distinction.
Other Titans earning all-region recognition were sophomore Cara Volz in the triple jump and junior Lauren Wrensch in the long jump.
Volz and Wrensch will be competing at the NCAA Championship for the first time. Volz is the 14th seed in the triple jump with a top distance of 38-4 3/4 while Wrensch is seeded 15th in the long jump with a qualifying measurement of 18-5 1/4.
There were four women's programs with 20 or more all-region selections – George Fox University (Ore.) in the West with 24, State University of New York at Geneseo in the Atlantic with 22 and both Emory University (Ga.) in the South/Southeast and Johns Hopkins University in the Mideast with 20.
UW-Oshkosh and its seven other WIAC associates combined for 52 All-Midwest Region selections, including multiple award winners Ashleigh Buergi (400-Meter Run & 1,600-Meter Relay) and Sarah Glidden (400-Meter Run, 60-Meter Hurdles, 1,600-Meter Relay & Pentathlon) from UW-Eau Claire; Libby Brugger (Mile Run & Distance Medley Relay) and Sadie Kroll (Mile Run, 3,000-Meter Run & Distance Medley Relay), Maddie Nelson (Long Jump & Triple Jump) and Savannah Rygiewicz (60-Meter Dash & 200-Meter Dash) from UW-La Crosse; Moore (3,000-Meter Run & 5,000-Meter Run) and Reichenberger (60-Meter Dash & 200-Meter Dash) from UW-Oshkosh; Kaitlin Mallek (60-Meter Dash & Long Jump) from UW-Stout; and Abbie Felton (200-Meter Dash, 400-Meter Run & 1,600-Meter Relay) from UW-Whitewater.
Carthage College's Mia Bennett and Wheaton College's (Ill.) Scott Bradley were named the Midwest Region's Field Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
