Titans Finish Second To Blugolds In Titan Challenge

Cara Volz recorded a pair of top 12 national performances to help UW-Oshkosh finish second in the Titan Women's Track & Field Challenge held Saturday (Feb. 18) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Eau Claire won the 12-team meet with 147 points while UW-Oshkosh placed second with 112.5, UW-Whitewater third with 94, Carroll University fourth with 63, Concordia University Wisconsin fifth with 47.5 and Beloit College sixth with 29.

UW-Oshkosh scored 16 points in both the 60-meter dash and long jump competitions while owning the winner in four events and the second-place finisher in four others.

Volz won the 60-meter hurdles for the Titans with a time of 8.96 seconds and finished third in the triple jump with a skip of 37-6 3/4. Volz now ranks 11th in the NCAA Division III this season in the 60-meter hurdles and 12th in the triple jump.

UW-Oshkosh had three other event winners as Emily Reichenberger captured the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.77 seconds, Kristen Linzmeier the 800-meter run in 2:14.03 and Erica Munyan the mile run in 5:07.21. Linzmeier's performance ranks fourth in the country this season and Reichenberger's effort eighth.

The Titans' second-place finishers were Elizabeth Abhold in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 54-3 1/4, Ashton Keene in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:22.00, Alyssa Ryan in the pole vault with a height of 12-3 1/2 and Lauren Wrensch in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/2. Ryan's measurement in the pole vault is the 11th best in the nation this season.

Other top performances for UW-Oshkosh were Olivia Seeley's third-place time of 7.93 seconds in the 60-meter dash, Abhold's fourth-place throw of 39-5 1/4 in the shot put, Karina Marchan's fourth-place distance of 17-3 1/2 in the long jump and Taylor Lindblad's fifth-place time of 23:09.38 in the 5,000-meter run.

The Titans had four sixth-place finishers as Wrensch recorded a time of 26.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Brenna Martyn a mark of 16-3 1/4 in the long jump, Sydney Rau a height of 10-8 in the pole vault and Jenna Trione a leap of 4-10 1/2 in the high jump.

UW-Oshkosh's scoring concluded with Marchan's seventh-place time of 9.66 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, Michelle Draxler's eighth-place time of 5:29.22 in the mile run and Rachel Powers' eighth-place time of 1:02.03 in the 400-meter run.

UW-Oshkosh also had three athletes perform in the 20-pound weight throw at the University of Wisconsin's Shell Shocker on Friday (Feb. 17) in Madison.

Abhold finished 12th in the event with a measurement of 54-6 while Ellie Infante placed 15th at 52-2 and Mikaela Zolecki 25th at 40-11.

NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin won the eight-team meet with 153 points while NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) finished second with 135 and NCAA Division I Marquette University third with 81. UW-Oshkosh did not score in the meet.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Menomonie.
