Titans Dominate Vikings In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh won all 14 events, including two apiece by Elizabeth Abhold, Emily Reichenberger and Cara Volz, to cruise to a 105-28 season-opening victory over the Lawrence University women's track & field team on Friday (Jan. 13) in Kolf Sports Center.

Abhold earned both of her victories in the throws, marking winning measurements of 54-6 with the 20-pound weight and 41-3 3/4 with the shot put, while Reichenberger sprinted to wins of 7.94 seconds in the 60- and 25.89 seconds in the 200-meter dashes. Volz won the 60-meter hurdles wirh a time of 9.27 seconds and the triple jump with a distance of 36-5 1/4.

In all, UW-Oshkosh swept the top three places in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter run, long jump, shot put and 20-pound weight throw.

The 60-meter dash had Olivia Seeley finish second and Alyssa Ryan third to Reichenberger with times of 8.02 and 8.21 seconds, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, Seeley finished second to Reichenberger in 27.02 seconds and Lauren Wrensch third in 27.20.

Following Abhold in the 20-pound weight throw were Ellie Infante with a second-place distance of 49-7 1/4 and Taylor Louis with a third-place mark of 43-11 1/4. The shot put featured Louis finishing second and Infante third behind Abhold with casts of 39-5 1/4 and 36-10 1/4, respectively.

In the 400-meter run, the Titans' Lindsey Denu finished first with a time of 1:01.99, Rachel Powers second in 1:03.86 and Melissa Srnka third in 1:04.55.

The long jump had UW-Oshkosh's Karina Marchan place first with a leap of 17-8, Wrensch second at 17-1 ½ and Brenna Martyn third at 15-5.

UW-Oshkosh secured victory in four other races as Kristen Linzmeier won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.77, Erica Munyan the mile run in 5:14.94 and Ashton Keene the 3,000-meter run in 11:11.93.

UW-Oshkosh took the 1,600-meter relay with a first-place time of 4:15.35.

The Titans had the top performance in three other field events, including the pole vault where Ryan and Megan Leahy both leaped to a height of 10-1 1/41. UW-Oshkosh also had Jenna Trione win the high jump with a height of 4-7.

Other second-place finishers for the Titans were Marchan in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.29 seconds, Breanna Van Den Plas in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.60, Michelle Draxler in the mile run with a time of 5:35.75 and Sarah Finn in the triple jump with a distance of 33-1 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining third-place finishers were Margaret Hamann and Sydney Rau in the pole vault with a leap of 9-7 1/4 and Taylor Lindblad in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 13:11.82.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at the North Central College Cardinal Opener next Friday (Jan. 20) in Naperville, Ill.
