Titans Finish Third At Rex Foster Invitational

Three Titans won field events as the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team opened its outdoor season with a third-place finish at the Rex Foster Invitational on Friday (April 3) in Whitewater.

Host UW-Whitewater won the meet with 181 points. UW-Stevens Point placed second with 148 points, followed by UW-Oshkosh in third with 132 points and NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University in fourth with 126.

The Titans entered the meet ranked third in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association while UW-Whitewater was ranked second.

UW-Oshkosh's Samantha Blue earned first place in the long jump with a leap of 17-3 1/4, Jecel (Gerner) Klotz claimed the shot put title with a distance of 45-5, and Melanie Brickner won the hammer throw with a cast of 180-1.

Brickner also took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 40-10 1/2 while Klotz added a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with heave of 126-9.

In addition to the three event wins, the Titans had six runner-up showings.

Placing second for UW-Oshkosh were Kasey Ederer in the high jump with a height of 5-4 1/4, Sonny Jenkins in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:56.36, Karina Marchan in the triple jump with a leap of 35-6 1/2, Brenna Martlyn in the javelin throw with a distance of 101-9, Taylor Sherry in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.73, and the 400-meter relay team with a time of 49.57.

Marchan also added a fourth-place result in the long jump with a mark of 16-4 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh's Lizzy Abhold finished third in the shot put (41-4 1/4), fourth in the hammer throw (157-8) and seventh in the discus throw (124-1).

Alyssa Ryan contributed a fourth-place result for the Titans in the pole vault (10-11 3/4) and a fifth-place effort in the long jump (16-1 3/4).

Also placing in sixth for UW-Oshkosh were Caitlyn McCormick in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.99, Alesha Maueg in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.41, Emily Reichenberger in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.58, and Melanie Ziolecki in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.11.

Finishing in seventh place for the Titans were Cheyenne Moore in the 1,500-meter run (5:12.79), Taylor Pralle in the 800-neter run (2:40.51) and Melanie Wickman in the shot put (39-1).

Stephanie Knutson rounded out UW-Oshkosh's scorers with an eighth-place time of 27.19 in the 200-meter dash.

UW-Oshkosh travels to the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 10-11).
