Titans Have Little Trouble En Route To UW-Oshkosh Title

UW-Oshkosh handled the competition by taking home nine first-place and five second-place finishes at the UW-Oshkosh Women's Track & Field Open on Friday (Feb. 6) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans scored 244 points to win the meet. St. Norbert College was second the six-team event with 112 points. University of St. Francis (Ill.) placed third with 93 points, Winona State University (Minn.) was fourth with 59 points, Ripon College was fifth with 35, and Wisconsin Lutheran College finished sixth with 20.

UW-Oshkosh had the top two finishers in the throwing events. Melanie Brickner was first in the 20-pound weight throw with a launch of 62-2 1/4 and had a second place mark of 46-9 in the shot put. Jecel (Garner) Klotz had a top shot put of 48-2 3/4 and second-place weight throw of 54-10.

Also in the field, Stefanie Weber rose to 10-6 to finish atop the pole vault and Erin Golz followed second in the pole vault with a vault of 9-6 1/4. Samantha Blue had a winning long jump of 18-0 1/2.

Taylor Sherry won the pentathlon with a school-record of 3,466 points.

Finishing first on the track included, Megan Geldernick in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.02 seconds, Kylee Verhasselt pacing the one mile run with a time of 5:03.49, Caitlin McCormick with a 400-meter run of 58.47 seconds, Isabella Tremonti covering 800-meters in 2:16.43, and Danica Harrison running the second-year 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:06.49.

Completing the marks of second-place times was Stephanie Jahn's 400-meter run in 59.50 seconds and Sonny Jenkins' 800-meter run of 2:20.13.

Nine UW-Oshkosh entries finished the meet in third as Emily Reichenberger sprinted the 60-meter dash in 7.94, Alesha Malueg and Geldernick raced the 200-meter dash with identical times of 26.74 seconds, Emma Link paced for 3,000-meter run time of 11:43.06 Kasey Ederer leaped to a high jump of 5-02 1/2, Amanda Ward had a pole vault of 9-6 ½, and Lizzy Abhold finished third in both throwing events with a mark of 53-5 3/4 in the weight throw and 44-5 1/2 in the shot put.

The 1,600-meter relay team was also third by compiling a time 4:10.69

The mentions in fourth place included Cheyenne Moore with an 800-meter run of 2:24.63, Nicole Stam in the pole vault with a height of 9-0 ¼, and Blue's 60-meter dash of 7.99 seconds.

Other Titans having a good meet finishing fifth was Alshey Holicek with a 60-meter dash of 8.01, Stephanie Knutson in the 200-meter with a time of 26.83, Alyssa Ryan with 16-11 1/2 mark in the long jump, and Melanie Wichman in the throwing events with launches of 48-08 in the weight throw and 39-0 1/4 in the shot put.

The listings for six a place finishers was Alicia Gentz 60-meter dash time of 8.09 and Rhea Fiorita running 3,000-meters in 12:31.11.

UW-Oshkosh will travel to Whitewater on Feb. 14 for a quadrangular with WIAC teams competing.
