Titans Earn National Scholar Team Of The Year

The UW-Oshkosh women's indoor track & field team was named National Scholar Team of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Titans, who won the award for the third time in four seasons, compiled a 3.12 team GPA. UW-Oshkosh took first at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship from March 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb.

Christy Cazzola received National Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the indoor and outdoor campaigns. She is the first woman to win both awards in back-to-back years. Cazzola, who owns a 3.40 GPA, won six national titles during the 2014 NCAA Championships.

UW-Oshkosh had five women named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Along with Cazzola, Stephanie Jahn (3.65), Caitlyn McCormick (3.44), Amanda Shober (3.69) and Breanna Strupp (3.74) gained recognition. To make the squad, a student-athlete must own a GPA of 3.30 or higher and compete at a NCAA Championship or finish the regular season ranked in the national top 35 of an individual event.

Principia College (Ill.) owned the top team GPA with its mark of 3.75. A total of 158 schools met the required 3.10 GPA for All-Academic Team status.

Bria Halama (UW-La Crosse) was selected the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for indoor field, while Alexis Appezzato (Ramapo) captured the outdoor field honor.
