Cazzola Crowned National Track Athlete Of The Year

Christy Cazzola was named National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, becoming the first woman to receive the award twice.

Cazzola capped her record-breaking career with three titles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship on May 24. It was the second straight season that she won the 800-meter, 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs in one afternoon.

During the 800, Cazzola set a national meet record with her time of 2:05.23. Her 5,000-meter mark of 16:29.96 was both a school record and stadium record. Cazzola is also the first woman to win the 1,500-meter race four consecutive years after clocking a 4:32.51.

For her efforts, Cazzola was named Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet for the second straight year.

Cazzola totaled 16 national titles, eight indoor and eight outdoor, during her last four years on the track. She also won the 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship.

At the 2014 WIAC Outdoor Championship, Cazzola earned four victories. She prevailed in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs, while completing a leg of the Titans' triumphant 3,200-meter relay. Her career numbers now include 27 conference championships – 12 indoor, 12 outdoor and three cross country.
