Titans Easily Defeat Vikings In Season Debut

Kylee Verhasselt won a pair of middle distance running events as UW-Oshkosh opened its women's indoor track and field season with a 104-33 victory over Lawrence University on Saturday (Jan. 18) in Kolf Sports Center.

Verhasselt took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.87 and the mile run with a performance of 5:25.79. She was the meet's lone double winner.

UW-Oshkosh had two athletes win an event and place second in another. Samantha Blue won the long jump with a leap of 17-4 3/4 while finishing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.75 seconds. Amanda Shober took first place in the triple jump with a skip of 35-10 and second in the long jump with a distance of 15-11.

The Titans owned five other winners on the track, including Leah Rendflesh who posted a time of 11:13.71 in the 3,000-meter run and Megan Geldernick who recorded a mark of 9.56 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

Alesha Malueg won the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.9 seconds, Elizabeth Pospyhalla the 200-meter dash in 26.75 and Stephanie Jahn the 400-meter run in 59.94.

In the field, the Titans received first-place efforts from Kasey Ederer in the high jump with a leap of 5-3, Stefanie Weber in the pole vault with a height of 10-0 and Melanie Brickner in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 57-4 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh also ran to a winning time of 4:04.66 in the 1,600-meter relay.

The Titans' Jecel (Gerner) Klotz and Taylor Sherry contributed a pair of second-place efforts. Klotz threw to measurements of 53-10 1/4 in the 20-pound weight throw and 46-3 1/2 in the shot put, while Sherry ran to a time of 9.67 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and leaped to a height of 4-11 in the high jump. Sherry shared her ranking in the high jump with teammate Brooke Holloway.

Other second-place mentions went to UW-Oshkosh's Ashley Holicek in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.15 seconds, Becklyn Hunter in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.66 and Kristen Linzmeier in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.81.

Sonny Jenkins and Sarah Finn also finished second for the Titans. Jenkins registered a time of 5:27.56 in the mile run, while Finn hopped to a distance of 30-10 1/2 in the triple jump.

UW-Oshkosh competes Friday (Jan. 24) at the North Central Cardinal Opener in Naperville, Ill.
