Thurs, Brickner Take First At Drake Alternative Meet

Tessa Thurs (Fr. • Edgar) and Melanie Brickner (So.  • Marathon) captured individual titles to pace UW-Oshkosh at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Women's Track & Field Meet held Saturday (April 27) in Whitewater.

Thurs defeated 15 other contestants with her time of 1:05.97 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Brickner ousted 17 other participants with her distance of 178-8 in the hammer throw. Brickner also placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 42-0 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh owned a pair of second-place finishers as Megan Geldernick (Fr. • Wauconda, Ill.) and Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.) ran to times of 15.38 in the 100-meter hurdles and 25.48 in the 200-meter dash, respectively. Hunter also finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.10.

The Titans had five other third-place finishers, including Taylor Bauer (Fr. • Fort Atkinson) who ran to a time of 2:19.47 in the 800-meter run. Morgan Engelhart (Jr. • Oregon) and Alexandria Mahoney (So. • River Valley) also ran to times of 12:14.85 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 1:08.24 in the 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's other third-place finishers were VeiJzahn Knight (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Abby Martin (Jr. • Chilton), Knight skipped to a distance of 35-9 1/4 in the triple jump, while Martin marked a measurement of 164-9 in the hammer throw. Martin also ranked fourth in the shot put with a distance of 42-0 3/4.

The Titans' Emelie Troedson (So. • New Berlin) contributed a pair of fourth-place finishes by leaping to a height of 5-1 in the high jump and a distance of 17-4 3/4 in the long jump.

UW-Oshkosh also received fourth-place finishes from Heather Clankie (Fr. • Brodhead) in the discus (130-5), Caiti McCormick (Fr. • Waukesha) in the 400-meter dash (1:00.39), Taylor Sherry (Fr. • Viola) in the 100-meter hurdles and Kristin Stockheimer (Sr. • West Salem) in the 800-meter run (2:22.51).

UW-Oshkosh's Sonny Jenkins (So. • Manton, Mich.) finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:49.79.

A trio of Titans finished sixth, including Stefanie Weber (So. • Burlington) who leaped to a height of 9-10 1/2 in the pole vault. Stephanie Knutson (So. • Appleton) and Rachel Westover (So. • South Milwaukee) contributed times of 13.05 in the 100-meter dash and 1:01.02 in the 400-meter dash.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (May 3-4) in La Crosse. The Titans have won the meet 11 times, with the most recent victory coming in 2011.
