Titans List Second At Outdoor Opener

Samantha Blue (So. • Kimberly) and Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna) each contributed two wins as UW-Oshkosh finished second at its Track & Field Open on Saturday (April 6) at Titan Stadium.

NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) won the six-team meet with 221 points. The Titans listed second with 182, followed by Northern Michigan University with 106, Lawrence University and Ripon College with 28 and Michigan Tech with 12.

Blue triumphed in the long jump with her distance of 17-7. In the 400-meter relay, she teamed with Stephanie Jahn (Jr. • Deerfield), Cassandra Hemmen (So. • Appleton) and Amanda Shober (So. • Sussex) to post a winning time of 50.10.

Cazzola owned the middle-distance races, taking the 800-meter in 2:11.49 and the 1,500-meter in 4:39.13.

UW-Oshkosh swept the podium in both those events. The 800-meter standings featured Taylor Bauer (Fr. • Fort Atkinson) in second at 2:20.58 and Kylee Verhasselt (So. • Freedom) in third at 2:21.01. During the 1,500-meter race, McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) listed second at 4:51.13 and Verhasselt earned third at 4:59.76.

Two more Titans prevailed in the field. Samantha Loew (Sr. • Burnett) won the hammer throw with a 169-6, while Kasey Ederer topped the high jump at 5-3.

The Titans head to the UW-Platteville Invite on Saturday (April 13).
