Blugolds End Titans' Four-Match Winning Streak

Samantha Koppa was the lone UW-Oshkosh winner as the Titans dropped an 8-1 women's tennis decision to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Valley Fitness & Racquet in Neenah.

Koppa earned her victory with a 6-3, 6-1 result over the Blugolds' Emily Cooper at No. 2 singles.

UW-Oshkosh (6-3, 2-3 WIAC) won at least three games in four of the remaining five individual contests, including Taylor Johnson's 7-6, 4-6 (10-6) loss to Emma Barnd in the sixth flight.

UW-Eau Claire's Natalie Wijesinghe captured the No. 1 singles contest with her 6-4, 6-0 win over Alyssa Leffler while Blugold Lindsey Henderson took the No. 3 singles challenge with her 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Kelley Hodyl.

Other individual winners for UW-Eau Claire (6-3, 5-1 WIAC) were Elain Franta in the fourth flight and Alexa Brooks in the fifth. Fanta defeated Michelle Spicer, 6-0, 6-1, while Brooks ousted Lesley Kutnink, 6-0, 6-4.

The Blugolds swept the three doubles contests by a combined 24-7 score.

Cooper and Wejisinghe recorded the win at No. 1 doubles with their 8-4 triumph over Hodyl and Koppa and Franta and Henderson at No. 2 doubles with their 8-2 verdict over Leffler and Spicer. Barnd and Brooks took the win at No. 3 doubles with their 8-1 victory over Johnson and Kutnink.

UW-Oshkosh returns to Neenah's Valley Fitness & Racquet on Sunday (Oct. 13) for a match against UW-Stout.
