Eagles Handcuff Visiting Titans

UW-La Crosse won all six singles contests in straight sets during a 9-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team on Saturday (Sept. 7) in La Crosse.

The host Eagles (2-0, 1-0 WIAC) earned a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles play as Kellie Hierl defeated Michelle Spicer in the third flight while Shira Busch ousted Lesley Kutnink in the fourth.

UW-Oshkosh (2-2, 0-2 WIAC) received its best individual performance from Samantha Koppa, who lost a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Kimberly Steinert in the first flight.

UW-Oshkosh's Evie Chitko lost a 6-1, 6-1 result to Hannah Riegle at the No. 5 singles while Courtney Salisbury suffered a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Kaitlyn Kalinka at No. 6.

Titan Kelley Hodyl lost a 6-0, 6-1 verdict to Maura Anderson at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh's tandem of Kutnink and Taylor Johnson lost an 8-7 outcome to Morgan Graf and Lauren Witt in the third flight.

UW-La Crosse took the No. 1 doubles challenge as Hierl and Steinert defeated Hodyl and Koppa, 8-0, and the No. 2 doubles encounter as Anderson and Busch ousted Chitko and Spicer, 8-1.

UW-Oshkosh also lost a 6-1 exhibition match to NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) on Saturday in La Crosse.

Kutnink gave the Titans their lone victory with her 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win over Tayla Card at No. 4 singles.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at the Hope College Invitational next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 13-14) in Holland, Mich.
