Titans Lose Opening Decision In Florida To Boxers

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team opened its four-match trip to Florida with a 7-2 loss to Pacific University (Ore.) on Sunday (March 24) in Orlando.

Pacific University (3-7) swept all three doubles contests to take an early lead over UW-Oshkosh. The Boxers then secured their victory over the Titans (5-4) by taking four of the six singles matches.

UW-Oshkosh earned its team points on wins by Michelle Spicer at No. 4 and Ashlee Polena at No. 6 singles. Spiced defeated Marissa Hayashi, 6-2, 6-2, while Polena outlasted Megan Meatte, 6-2 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Pacific University's Chantelle Baclay won the No. 1 singles contest with her 6-3, 6-1 decision over Kelley Hodyl. Baclay also teamed with Hayashi to defeat Spicer and Alyssa Leffler, 8-7, at No. 1 doubles.

The Boxers' Halie Chang took the No. 2 singles match with her 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Hannah Peters. Chang also paired with Johanna Wilson for an 8-3 win over Peters and Samantha Koppa at No. 2 doubles.

Other individual winners for Pacific University were Adrienne Powell in the third flight and Jessica Eligio in the fifth. Powell outscored Koppa, 6-3, 6-3, while Eligio defeated Ireland Slattery, 6-3, 6-4.

Pacific University won the No. 3 doubles contest as Eligio and Powell ousted Hodyl and Slattery, 8-2.

UW-Oshkosh takes to the court against Wellesley College (Mass.) on Monday (March 25) in Orlando.
