Titans Suffer Loss To Warhawks

Michelle Spicer and Ireland Slattery both lost singles contests via a super tiebreaker as UW-Oshkosh dropped a 9-0 women's tennis match to 11-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Oct. 2) at Oshkosh North High School.

Spicer played the No. 3 singles position and won her first set by a 7-6 (7-3) result over the Warhawks' Madeline Slicker. Spicer then lost a 6-3 verdict in the second set before losing a 10-4 decision to Slicker in the super tiebreaker.

Slattery competed at No. 6 singles and captured her first set by a 6-2 outcome over Allie Miller. Slattery then suffered a 6-0 defeat in the second set before being outscored, 10-6, by Miller in the super tiebreaker.

UW-Whitewater, which has won its last 93 matches over a WIAC opponent, dominated the doubles contests by taking 24 of 29 games.

The Warhawks (4-1, 4-0 WIAC) received doubles victories of 8-1 from Miller and Paige Nierman in the third flight and 8-2 from both Gabi Kitchell and Julie Martin in the first flight and Olivia Kraft and Molly Rueth in the second.

Miller and Nierman defeated Evie Chitko and Ashlee Polena while Kitchell and Martin ousted Spicer and Alyssa Leffler. Kraft and Rueth were victorious over Samantha Koppa and Jenna Peterson.

UW-Whitewater won the remaining four singles contests in straight sets, including Martin's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Koppa in the second flight and Kitchell's 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Leffler in the first.

The Warhawks also received individual wins from Elsie Ha in the fourth flight and Kraft in the fifth. Ha defeated Monica Micoliczyk, 6-0, 6-1, while Kraft ousted Polena, 6-2, 6-1.

UW-Oshkosh (3-2, 1-2 WIAC) travels to UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (Oct. 4).
