Titans Win For The Second Time In As Many Days

UW-Oshkosh had little trouble during its six singles contests and cruised to an 8-1 victory over the St. Norbert College women's tennis team on Friday (Sept. 7) in Green Bay.

The Titans, who captured their second dual match in as many days, won two of their three doubles competitions against the Green Knights before winning all six of their singles battles in straight sets.

St. Norbert College (3-2) took the No. 1 doubles contest as Sofie Koppmann and Meg Witt outlasted Kelley Hodyl and Hannah Peters, 9-8 (7-2).

UW-Oshkosh (2-0) then evened the match and took the lead for good as Alyssa Leffler and Michelle Spicer won at No. 2 and Samantha Koppa and Ireland Slattery at No. 3 doubles.

Leffler and Spicer defeated Claire Hetzel and Hannah Keller, 8-2, while Koppa and Slattery ousted Hannah Swajanen and Erin Vits, 8-6.

Koppa lost only one set as took the No. 3 singles contest for the Titans with her 6-0, 6-1 decision over Swajanen.

UW-Oshkosh also received convincing wins from Leffler and Spicer at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Leffler beat Witt, 6-1, 6-1, while Spicer topped Keller, 6-2, 6-1.

Other winners for the Titans were Peters at No. 2, Hodyl at No. 4 and Monica Micoliczyk at No. 6 singles.

Peters defeated Hetzel by a 6-4, 6-4 result while Hodyl ousted Nicole Pfotenhauer by a 6-3, 6-1 verdict. Micoliczyk was a 6-4, 6-1 victor over Morgan Moxson.

UW-Oshkosh has now won 18 of its last 25 matches against St. Norbert College.

The Titans are off until they host UW-La Crosse in their WIAC opener next Friday (Sept. 14) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
