Titans Suffer Defeats In Home Finale

UW-Oshkosh closed its home schedule for the 2017-18 women's tennis season with defeats to Coe (Iowa) and Carthage colleges on Sunday (April 8) at Valley Athletics in Neenah.

UW-Oshkosh (8-5) lost 7-2 to Coe College (13-11) in the opener and 9-0 to Carthage College (11-5) in the nightcap.

The Titans took an early 2-1 lead over Coe College as the tandems of Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler at No. 2 doubles and Lesley Kutnink and Ashlee Polena at No. 3 doubles recorded wins. Koppa and Leffler defeated Stephanie Bush and Eliza Sundermann, 8-3, while Kutnink and Polena ousted Lakyn Boltz and Ella White, 9-8 (3).

Coe College earned its lone doubles victory on the 8-1 win by Lauren French and Haley Resnick in the first flight over Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen.

The Kohawks swept all six singles contests against the Titans, including French's 6-2, 6-3 win over Sagen in the first flight, Resnick's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Leffler in the second and Bush's 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Peters in the third.

Coe College also obtained individual wins from Sundermann in the fourth flight, Boltz in the fifth and White in the sixth. Sundermann defeated Koppa, 6-4, 6-4, while Boltz outscored Kutnink, 5-7, 7-5 (1). White was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Polena.

Carthage College got its win over UW-Oshkosh started with three victories in doubles play, including the 8-5 triumph by Angelica Emmanouil and Max Mella over Peters and Sagen in the first flight.

The Lady Reds won at No. 2 doubles as Natalie Favia and Lauren Woznicki defeated Kopp and Leffler, 8-4, and No. 3 doubles as Taylor Bolyard and Hannah Haeberle ousted Polena and Monica Micoliczyk, 8-3.

Carthage College captured five of its six individual wins in straight sets. The lone exception was Favia's 2-6, 6-4 (7) triumph over Peters in the third flight.

UW-Oshkosh lost a pair of 7-5, 6-4 individual contests as Sagen was defeated by Mella in the first flight and Hannah Nauth by Maria Salerno in the sixth.

Other singles winners for Carthage College were Emmanouil in the second flight, Bolyard in the fourth and Woznicki in the fifth. Emmanouil defeated Leffler, 6-0, 6-1, while Bolyard ousted Koppa, 6-1, 6-4, and Woznicki bested Kutnink, 6-4, 6-4.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Waukesha next Sunday (April 15) for a match against Carroll University.
