Eagles Fly Away From Titans

UW-La Crosse won five of its six singles contests in straight sets and swept the doubles competition to earn a 9-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team on Thursday (Oct. 12) in La Crosse.

The Eagles (6-2, 3-2 WIAC) opened the match with three wins in doubles play, including an 8-0 triumph by Bridget Bellissimo and Sadie Spahn over the Titans' Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen in the first flight.

UW-La Crosse also took the second and third doubles flights as the tandems of Hayley Clope and Alaina Bublitz and Maura Andersen and Tayler Garves won by 8-4 and 8-1 scores, respectively. Clope and Bublitz defeated Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler in the second flight while Andersen and Garves ousted Kelley Hodyl and Lesley Kutnink in the third. 

UW-Oshkosh (6-3, 2-3 WIAC) received its most competitive singles result from Hodyl in the sixth flight. She lost a 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 decision to Garves.

UW-La Crosse's Bellissimo captured the No. 1 singles contest with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sagen while Clope snatched the No. 2 singles match with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Leffler.

Other individual winners for the Eagles were Spahn in the third flight, Andersen in the fourth and Bublitz in the fifth. Spahn defeated Peters, 6-0, 6-2, while Andersen ousted Koppa, 6-2, 6-0. Bublitz posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kutnink.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Stout on Friday (Oct. 13) in its final home match of the fall season. The contest begins at 2:30 p.m. from the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
