Unbeaten Lady Reds Defeat Titans

The Carthage College women's tennis team remained unbeaten after defeating UW-Oshkosh, 9-0, on Saturday (March 14) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

Carthage College (12-0) won all six singles contests in straight sets, including Haleigh McPeek's 6-0, 6-1 victory over Erica Van Riper in the first flight and Abbi Howell's 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Jessica DeGroot in the third.

The Lady Reds also received Max Mella's 6-2, 7-6 win over Bailey Sagen in the second flight and Taylor Bolyard's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Llora Waldman in the fourth.

Carthage College concluded singles play with wins from Kristen Kalinka in the fifth flight and Kirsten Peterson in the sixth. Kalinka defeated Hannah Bostwick, 6-2, 6-4, while Peterson ousted Paige Ganser, 6-1, 6-4.

UW-Oshkosh (5-9) lost a pair of 8-6 decisions in doubles play. Suffering the narrow defeats for the Titans were DeGroot and Waldman to Bolyard and Kalinka in the second flight and Bostwick and Ganser to Howell and Peterson in the third.

McPeek and Mella captured the No. 1 doubles contest for the Lady Reds with their 8-4 victory over Sagen and Van Riper.

The Titans were playing their first match since competing at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 26.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it plays Elmhurst College (Ill.) and George Fox University (Ore.) on March 23 in Hilton Head, S.C.
