Titans Split Decisions With Vikings, Green Knights

UW-Oshkosh was on both ends of an 8-1 women's tennis result as it defeated Lawrence University before losing to St. Norbert College on Saturday (Sept. 27) in Green Bay.

Hannah Bostwick was the lone Titan to win both of her singles matches. She competed at No. 6 singles and earned victories of 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 over Melissa Heeren of Lawrence University and 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 over Ashley Randazzo of St. Norbert College.

UW-Oshkosh (3-6) won its remaining five singles contests against Lawrence University (5-5), including Erica Van Riper's 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Hannah Geoffrey in the first flight and Bailey Sagen's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Katie Frankel in the second.

Other UW-Oshkosh individual winners against the Vikings were Brianna Theobald in the third flight, Llora Waldman in the fourth and Paige Ganser in the fifth.

Theobald defeated Lindsay Holsen, 6-3, 6-0, while Waldman ousted Allison Juda, 6-2, 6-0. Ganser marked a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tess Vogel.

In doubles play, Sagen and Van Riper won in the first flight with an 8-5 result over Frankel and Geoffrey. Theobald and Kimberlyn Fernez contributed an 8-3 victory over Holsen and Ali Heiring in the second flight.

Lawrence University scored its lone team point on the 8-6 win from Heeren and Vogel over Bostwick and Maggie Bolton at No. 3 doubles.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert College (8-1) ended UW-Oshkosh's three-match winning streak.

The Green Knights took the momentum early by sweeping all three doubles contests, including the 8-3 win by Nancy Chybowski and Elizabeth Manlick over Sagen and Van Riper in the first flight.

Katherine Ake and Erika Chitko defeated Theobald and Waldman by an 8-4 decision in the second flight, while Randazzo and Anna Gosz tallied an 8-5 victory over Bolton and Bostwick in the third.

Theobald put up a strong showing at No. 3 singles, but came up short in a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 loss to Chybowski.

St. Norbert College took the top two individual flights as Manlick defeated Van Riper, 6-3, 6-1 in the first and Ake ousted Sagen in the second, 6-2, 6-3.

Completing the list of individual winners for the Green Knights were Chitko in the fourth flight and Gosz in the fifth. Chitko recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win over Waldman, while Gosz tallied a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ganser.

UW-Oshkosh hosts seven-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at the Kolf Sports Center outdoor courts.
