Titans Open WIAC Action With Loss To Eagles

UW-Oshkosh opened WIAC women's tennis play with a 9-0 loss to UW-La Crosse on Friday (Sept. 12) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

The Titans (0-5/0-1 WIAC) suffered a pair of 8-3 defeats in doubles play as Bailey Sagen and Erica Van Riper lost to Bridget Bellissimo and Kimmy Mrozek in the first flight while Maggie Bolton and Hannah Bostwick lost to Alaina Bublitz and Jennifer Graham in the third.

UW-Oshkosh's Kimberlyn Fernez and Brianna Theobald lost their No. 2 doubles contest to Bryanne Blanton and Rachael Wabers, 8-1.

In singles play, Theobald was edged 7-6 (2), 5-7, 10-6 by Blanton in the third flight.

UW-La Crosse (5-0/3-0 WIAC) won the remaining singles flights in straight sets, including Graham's 6-0, 6-0 win over Paige Ganser in the fifth and Bellissimo's 6-0, 6-1 victory over Van Riper in the first.

The Eagles also had Mrozek defeat Sagen, 7-6 (4), 6-1 in the second flight, Kendra Woyahn oust Llora Waldman, 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth and Samantha Fleming beat Jessica Stark, 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes against Bethel University (Minn.) and UW-Stevens Point next Saturday (Sept. 20) in Stevens Point.
