Titans Own Two Third-Place Listings At UW-Whitewater Invite

UW-Oshkosh recorded a pair of third-place finishes at the UW-Whitewater Women's Tennis Invitational held Saturday (Aug. 30) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater easily captured the team title with 51 points. The Warhawks won all three singles flights and two of the three doubles categories.

UW-La Crosse took second place in the eight-team meet with 19 points, while Carthage College finished third with 18, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 16 and Grinnell College (Iowa) fifth with 14. UW-Oshkosh placed seventh in the team standings with 10 points.

UW-Oshkosh recorded both of its third-place finishes in the doubles competition.

In the second flight, Maggie Bolton and Llora Waldman defeated Amy Even and Chelsea Lavin of Augustana College (Ill.), 9-7, in their third-place match. The UW-Oshkosh tandem opened play with an 8-2 victory over Boryana Borisova and Allie Spontak of Illinois Wesleyan University and an 8-3 loss to Sarah Henderson and Colleen McCullough of UW-Eau Claire.

In the third flight, Hannah Bostwick and Olivia Leuck won their third-place match with an 8-5 victory over Emily Kratz and Lauren Woznicki of Carthage College. The UW-Oshkosh duo split their first two matches, posting an 8-5 win over Minna Montgomery and Rebecca Richman of Grinnell College before suffering an 8-4 loss to Kim Drangeid and Samantha Fleming of UW-La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh went winless in its remaining four contests. The closest result came at No. 1 doubles, where Bailey Sagen and Eric Van Riper dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision to Bridget Bellissimo and Kimmy Mrozek of UW-La Crosse.

In singles play, Brianna Theobald lost a 6-0, 6-0 contest to Maddie Johnson of UW-Eau Claire in the first flight. Paige Ganser lost by a 6-1, 6-0 score to Amy Upthagrove of UW-Whitewater in the second flight and Jessica Stark by a 6-0, 6-1 result to Alexandra Talyansky of UW-Whitewater in the third.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Mount Vernon, Iowa, next weekend for matches on Saturday (Sept. 6) against Cornell College (Iowa) and Coe College (Iowa) and Sunday (Sept. 7) against Augustana College (Ill.).
