Pioneers Spoil Titans' Season Opener

Carroll University spoiled Daniel Bickett's debut as head coach of the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team by posting a 6-3 win over the Titans on Friday (Aug. 29) in Waukesha.

Carroll University (1-0) took the match with four victories in single play and two in doubles action.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1) earned its wins at No. 3 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, Llora Waldman won in the third flight and Paige Ganser in the fourth. Waldman defeated Alison Lambrecht, 6-2, 6-2, while Ganser ousted Tiffany Maggioncalda, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Competing at No. 1 doubles, Bailey Sagen and Erica Van Riper gave the Titans an 8-3 victory over Abigail Pellett and Kaylee Scidmore-Rossing.

Individual winners for Carroll University were Pellett in the first flight, Julia Patzin in the second, Scidmore-Rossing in the fifth and Grace Prete in the sixth.

Pellett defeated Van Riper, 6-0, 6-1, while Patzin beat Sagen, 6-1, 6-0. Scidmore-Rossing marked a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hannah Bostwick and Prete a 2-6, 7-5 (10-5) triumph over Jessica Stark.

Victorious for the Pioneers in doubles play were Lambrecht and Patzin in the second flight and Maggioncalda and Jessica Klamecki in the third. Both tandems won by 8-3 scores, Lambrecht and Patzin over Ganser and Brianna Theobald and Klamecki and Maggioncalda over Waldman and Maggie Bolton.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its season-opening weekend of activity by competing Saturday (Aug. 30) at the UW-Whitewater Invitational.
