Titans Finish Fourth At WIAC Championship

Valerie Langkau and Llora Waldman finished third in their respective singles flights as UW-Oshkosh placed fourth in the team competition at the WIAC Women's Tennis Championship held Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 26-27) in Madison.

UW-Whitewater won five of the six individual flights and one doubles category to capture the team title with 58 points. UW-La Crosse finished second with 51 points, while UW-Eau Claire placed third with 49, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 34, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 32 and UW-River Falls and UW-Stout sixth with 14.

The overall WIAC champion for the 2013 season was UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks totaled 21 points to win their seventh straight title and 14th overall. UW-La Crosse finished second in the overall standings with 18 points, while UW-Eau Claire placed third with 15, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 11, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 10, UW-River Falls sixth with 5 and UW-Stout seventh with four.

The overall team champion was determined by using a combination of the regular-season dual-meet standings and the WIAC Championship results. The finish in the regular-season standings accounted for one-third of the criteria, while the conference championship accounted for the remaining two-thirds.

UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater now advance to the WIAC Team Tournament in the spring. The event, which will be hosted by UW-Whitewater, determines the league's automatic qualifier to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship.
