Titans Double Up Vikings

Ignited by victories in all three flights of doubles play, the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated Lawrence University, 6-3, on Tuesday (Sept. 17) in Appleton.

UW-Oshkosh (4-2) took control of the match on wins by its doubles partners of Morgan Counts and Erica Van Riper, Hannah Bostwick and Brianna Theobald and Maggie Bolton and Llora Waldman.

Winning by 8-1 scores were Counts and Van Riper over Hannah Geoffrey and Ali Hiering in the first flight and Bolton and Waldman over Allison Juda and Elena Watson in the third. Bostwick and Theobald added a 9-7 triumph over Polly Dalton and Gayatri Malhotra in the second.

Individual winners for the Titans were Counts in the first flight, Valerie Langkau in the third and Van Riper in the fourth. Counts defeated Malhotra, 6-2, 3-6 (10-3), while Langkau ousted Hiering, 6-1, 6-2. Van Riper contributed a 6-4, 0-6 (10-8) victory over Dalton in the fourth.

Lawrence University (6-5), which is in its first season under former UW-Oshkosh head coach Steve Francour, received individual wins from Geoffrey in the second flight, Melissa Heeren in the fifth and Juda in the sixth.

Geoffrey won by scores of 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) over Theobald, while Heeren won by results of 1-6, 6-2 (10-7) over Waldman. Juda supplied a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Andrea Larson.

UW-Oshkosh returns to the Kolf Sports Center Complex on Friday (Sept. 20) to host Cardinal Stritch University.
