Warhawks Overpower Titans

UW-Oshkosh's first WIAC loss of the season was a convincing one as four-time defending league champion UW-Whitewater handed the Titans a 9-0 women's tennis setback on Wednesday (Oct. 5) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (7-0/4-0 WIAC), which hasn't lost to a WIAC opponent since the 2006 season, won every singles and doubles contest against UW-Oshkosh (6-3/3-1 WIAC) in straight sets.

UW-Oshkosh's best fight came at No. 1 doubles, where Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) dropped an 8-5 decision to Alexandra Bayliss and Kalla Schaefer.

UW-Whitewater took the other two doubles results on wins from Sydney Divelbiss and Annie Smith and Lauren Aguilar and Megan Kasten. Divelbiss and Smith defeated Megan Etten (So. • Howard) and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J), 8-1, in the second flight, while Aguilar and Kasten ousted Morgan Counts(So. • Oshkosh) and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc), 8-3, in the third.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh won six games in the first, third and sixth flights. Bostwick dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Schaefer in the first flight, while Counts and Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh) lost 6-4, 6-2 results to Divelbiss and Jackie Vitale in the third and sixth flights, respectively.

UW-Whitewater collected its remaining singles wins from Smith in the second flight. Bayliss in the fourth and Kasten in the fifth. Smith beat Nolte, 6-3, 6-1, while Kasten topped Piotrowski, 6-2, 6-1. Bayliss won on a second-set default over Theobald.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
