Titans Smother Red Hawks

UW-Oshkosh recorded a pair of shutouts in both singles and doubles play as it coasted to a 9-0 victory over the Ripon College women's tennis team on Saturday (Sept. 10) in Ripon.

The Titans (2-0) set the tempo early by winning all three doubles contests by a combined score of 24-1. UW-Oshkosh collected 8-0 triumphs from Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) over Brittany Sullivan and Josie Ullsperger in the first flight and Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) over Ellie Hedberg and Katie Majerowski in the third.

UW-Oshkosh also had Megan Etten (So. • Howard) and Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh) post an 8-1 victory over Alison Thies and Oliva Wetzel at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, UW-Oshkosh received 6-0, 6-0 wins from Counts over Majerowski in the third flight and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc) over Chloe Piepho in the fourth.

The Titans lost only two games at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. Bostwick won by a 6-2, 6-0 result over Ullsperger in the first flight, while Langkau won by a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Elizabeth Ake in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh wrapped up its 10th straight win over Ripon College (0-2) on victories by Etten and Nolte. Etten marked a 6-3, 6-4 outcome over Wetzel at No. 6 singles, while Nolte tallied a 6-3, 6-2 ruling over Sullivan at No. 2 singles.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Appleton on Wednesday (Sept. 14) to battle Lawrence University.
